What is ABS
ABS resin (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a high-strength, tough, and easily moldable thermoplastic polymer. Due to its superior properties, ABS resin is widely used in various industrial and consumer products, such as appliance housings and toys.
Chemical and physical properties
ABS resin is a milky white solid with a certain degree of toughness and a density of about 1.04-1.06 g/cm³. It has strong resistance to acids, alkalis, and salts, and can withstand some organic solvents.
ABS resin performs well in environments ranging from -25°C to 60°C, and it has excellent moldability, producing smooth, easily dyeable, and electroplatable surfaces. Therefore, it is commonly used in the manufacturing of household appliance housings and toys. A typical example is LEGO bricks, which are made from ABS.
ABS resin can be blended with various other resins, such as PC/ABS, ABS/PVC, PA/ABS, and PBT/ABS, to create new properties and applications. For instance, mixing ABS resin with PMMA can produce transparent ABS, broadening its range of uses. Additionally, ABS resin operates effectively in temperatures between -25°C and 60°C, and it is known for its good moldability, resulting in smooth, dyeable, and electroplatable products.
