Principle of fan spray nozzles

After liquid flows to a nozzle from the pipe forced by pressure, when it passes by the spray orifice, it will be extruded by the orifice with an oval-shaped structure. As the pressure of the extrusion is not able to be released, the liquid flows out of the orifice to both sides which makes the spray shape is similar to a fan. That is why this kind of spray is called “Fan spray”.

You can imagine that when we are watering the flowers or washing the car with the garden hose, for further and stronger water spraying, we will use our thumb and index finger to add pressure. The spout of the garden hose then becomes flat oval-shaped which is one of the applications of the fan spray principle.
